We get a lot of questions here at Surfing Dominican Republic, and one of the most recurring questions is:
Q:Is it only winter time that the north coast of the DR gets good surf?
A: The Dominican republic gets waves year round!
Yes winter times sees bigger waves in the Cabarete area, prime big wave season is between October and April, but the months of May to September generally speaking still has fun waves in the chest to head high range. Ideal for learning to surf or intermediate surfers.
August and September can also be prime months, since the Atlantic hurricanes can spin off far north of the island and send very good clean surf conditions over to the North coast of Hispanola.
